The Armature Building was built between 1889 and 1894 for the Greer Machinery Company. The building was also once occupied by the John G. Duncan Machine Co., W.R. Johnson Cigar Manufactures, Claiborne Tate and Cowan and Tennessee Armature and Associated Electric.

Completely renovated in 2012, the building consists of 16 studio apartments, 24 one-bedroom apartments, 11 two-bedroom apartments and two street level commercial spaces.
